Elemental Components
While classical engineers have a seemingly infinite amount of components to use in designing and building devices, quantum engineers have a well defined set of starting materials - 112 atoms total (with a few more on their way). The best way to classify nanoscale components and devices is to specify which atoms are included, traditionally referred to as "the molecular formula." This table is a starting point for the organization of existing nanomaterials. Elements with a dark background have been linked to one or more nanotech applications that makes use of that element. Elements with a light background need your help! Click them to find out how.
