Potential Energy

Energy stored in an object due to its position or internal structure. For instance, something in a position far away from the earth has more graviational potential energy in relation to the earth than an object near to the earths surface. Other kinds of potential energy include (but are not limited to) electrical potential (Volts), chemical potential (that stored in fuel such as ATP) and elastic energy (that stored in a spring or rubber band).
