Mass to Charge Ratio

A number defining how a particle will respond to an electric or magnetic field that can be calculated by dividing the mass of a particle by its charge. For instance, mass spectrometry provides information on the mass to charge ratio of a molecular species. In this case, the ratio is expressed by m/z where m is the molecular weight and z is the elementary charge.
